The Brockley No.1 Pensioners Club

Come and spend a little time with friends

Tuesdays 11-2pm (term time)

The Brockley No 1 pensioners club has been meeting at St Andrews for many years (it started, around the time of the war) it is based in St Andrews community centre, its a club for men and women who would like a couple of hours, mixing with other people, just for a chat or to play a game.

Current regular activities include going out for lunch once a month, playing games, we have outings in the warmer weather, to parks and the seaside we also arrange short holiday breaks a couple of times a year.

All this and a nutritious meal.

The group is now run by volunteers, with help from community work students and the centre manager.

So why sit at home by yourself? Come and spend a little time with friends.

We provide a cheap lunch and tea and biscuits are free.

St Andrews After School Club

Every school day until 6pm.

Free collection service from Beecroft Garden, John Stainer & Gordonbrook Schools.

Our After School Club, now in its second decade of operation, is based in the heart of Brockley in the halls of St Andrews Centre, on the corner of Wickham and Brockley roads.

It was set up with the help of grants from the National Lottery and Lewisham Council’s Early Years Service with the aims of enabling local parents to access work and to offer an affordable and safe alternative for ‘latch key kids’. We are a voluntary sector and not for profit organisation and are registered with OFSTED. We staffed by a dedicated team of qualified and experienced play workers.

Daily routine

There’s a daily collection service from the school playground, from there it’s a short walk to St Andrews. Where we offer a wide variety of learning and play activities in a safe and fun environment,

The first thing that the children do on arrival is to have something to eat and drink, we have a varied menu, it might be a sandwich or a hot snack and there’s always fresh fruit available. It is important to note that this is only meant to be a snack to ‘keep the wolf from the door’ and not a proper meal.

After this there will be several different activities on offer each day, there’s always an arts and crafts activity, table games and an under eights area, in addition we have pool, air hockey, table football and table tennis, we also have computers. Outside there’s a small playground for football, hockey, bench ball and general running around. We offer regular football training sessions as well as dance and music sessions.

Although we are play based we try to sneak in some education whenever we can with educational games, quizzes and computers, and children can do their home work with us if let us know.

If your child is involved in after school activities at the school we offer a late collection service.

Fees

Current cost available on request. A deposit equivalent to two weeks fees is required, returnable when your child leaves the After School Club, or offset against the final two weeks.

All of the above is included in the weekly price, which we strive to keep as low as possible, we are a not for profit organisation and our costs are low because our over heads are low and subsidised in kind by St Andrews Centre.

Holiday Playschemes

We aim to run playschemes in the school holidays, (except Christmas), from 8.30am to 5.30pm. With a varied programme of activities. Booking opens four weeks before each holiday, on a first come first served basis. More information about Playschemes here..

A full programme of on and off site sports, arts, visits and games.

Playschemes

At St Andrews we run holiday projects (playschemes) in every school holiday except Christmas. We have many years experience of running these.

These usually take place in two parts one for under 13’s and one for the older youth.

The former is full day care aimed at the children of working parents with younger children, we make a charge for this, which we keep as low as possible.

The latter is a drop-in for 13 + age, this is a drop-in session in the afternoons there is usually no admission charge for this (dependant on external funding), but we do ask for a contribution for outings.

We are fortunate to be able to draw on the wide range of experience of our Youth and After School Club staff for these schemes, along with students and volunteers where appropriate.
